What is Bumble?

Bumble is a dating app developed by Whitney Wolfe, a former Tinder employee, in 2014. While this platform is built on a similar model to Tinder, it has an unusual twist. Women control the conversations. After the matches are suggested, the female members make the first move; they start the conversation. This principle is the opposite of how traditional dating sites work. With this rule, Bumble aims to reduce the number of unpleasant messages women receive on dating apps. This platform is not for men who always want to be in control of conversations.

As a platform where women are in control, it is surprising that the ratio of women to men is almost equal. A significant number of members are between the ages of 23 and 35. But after all, membership is for the younger generation. As a location-based app, Bumble asks its members to provide their location. The user’s location determines which matches they will receive. Users browsing from their hometown will most likely see many familiar faces, including neighbors, classmates, and friends. However, users will be shown members of that location in another geographic area.

How does it work?

When you sign up for a Bumble account, must allow the app to access your location so you can start seeing potential matches. When browsing profiles, at least one photo, name, age, occupation, education, biography, and potentially more details will be displayed. If you’re interested in a potential match, you can swipe right, then wait to see if they swipe towards you. If you’re not interested, swipe left and kept looking for other possible matches. You officially have a partner when you swipe right in a match, and they swipe towards you. A partner opens doors for communication.

Bumble allows members to skip traditional text messages and switch to voice and video calls. Like Tinder’s interface, users will receive match suggestions. Swiping right indicates that the user likes the match. Swiping left means they are not interested. If both parties swipe each other’s profile, a match is made. When this happens, ladies will receive a notification that a match has been made. He has 24 hours to contact the man if he is interested. If the woman texts him, the man will get a response in 24 hours. If he replies to your message, they can continue their discussion without interruption at this point.
