Rakuten, which also owns the Canadian e-reader Kobo, thought this app was an investment that could be developed. It aimed to reach large masses by incorporating this Cyprus-based application into Rakuten. Rakuten chief executive Hiroshi Mikitani says that purchased this app is a new strategy for the company. They thought that by purchasing this application, they would both invest in their own brand and take the application to the next level.
